This degree is the first step in the professional development of workplace counsellors and psychologists, meaning in the public service or the corporate environment. The purpose of this degree is to equip students with the necessary psychological and social knowledge, attitudes, skills and applied competence to critically analyse community structures and processes to be able to participate in community based interventions and to be trained as counsellors on post-graduate level.
The programme consists of 30 modules spread over three levels, each with 10 modules.
For the first level, students take compulsory modules in basic psychology, psychology in society, development studies, critical reasoning, and language attitudes and world view. They must also take at least two language modules and three modules in applied psychology (at the workplace, in the public service, in the corporate context or applied psychology and the law).
The second level consists of six compulsory modules on topics such as personality theories, adulthood and maturity, and counselling skills, plus four modules in applied psychology (workplace, public sector, corporate context or law).
At the third level, students again take six compulsory modules dealing with psychology and psychological processes, along with four applied psychology modules.

- Bachelor of Arts (Health Sciences and Social Services) with specialisation in Applied Psychology for Professional Contexts
- Complete your Honours degree in Psychology, an internship (6 months) and pass the Professional Board for Psychology examination to register as a counsellor (career, trauma or pastoral) or psychometrist
