Programme for Teachers of Language in Primary Schools (70386)

Purpose

To provide the opportunity for primary school teachers through the use of 

language methodologies of the Molteno Institute and other methodologies to gain knowledge and skills in learner-centred language teaching at the Foundation and Intermediate phases. Quality training in the practice and theory of language teaching will be offered. 


Target group

Teachers who are involved in teaching language and literacy in the primary school 


Admission requirements

Senior Certificate plus an initial two year primary school teaching certificate plus students have to be practicing primary school teachers

One year

Tuition method

UNISA open distance learning through a combination of tutorial letters, study guides, assignments, scheduled workshops and school-based support visits 


Kind of assessment

Note: 

Formative assessment and examination admission will comply with UNISA’s formative assessment rules and policies 

Formative assessment: 

A compulsory written assignment involving school-based exercises, projects and self-assessment 

Summative assessment: 

A teaching practice module in which evidence of competence in teaching literacy students in the primary school is provided
